Marching Band

WELCOME to the MCHS Grizzly Marching Band!

One of the Elite Bands in Northern California
The Mariposa County High School Grizzly Marching Band and Color Guard is one of the most acclaimed high school marching bands.  The group has performed for the Shriners College All-Star Football Game in San Francisco; is the longest participating group at Fresno States Band Day; has marched in parades in Mariposa, Coulterville, Oakhurst, Merced, Fresno, San Diego, and New York City; performed in San Diego's Little Italy and New York's Times Square; and before local, regional, and national television audiences. In a half-decade of street-parade competitions, the band and color guard have won over 25 first-place awards, placed third in overall sweepstake, and has taken awards in both Drum-Major and Color-Guard categories.

But the success is hard-earned. The Grizzly Band never stops.
Graduation in June is the start of the next season!  Over the summer, weekly rehearsals are held to integrate new freshmen, learn pep and marching selections, and street and field marching routines.  It all comes to a head one week before school begins, when we conduct the annual "Band Camp"; all-day practice sessions  that veteran members of the band; alumni; qualified volunteers and staff; all work to prepare for the upcoming season.

Fall is MARCHING SEASON!
As always, the Grizzlies will be very busy during the fall, with pep-band performances at football games and school events, Veterans and Community Groups, fund-raising, local parades, as well as street parade contests.

Support. Camraderie. Friendships that last a lifetime.
It seems overwhelming at the beginning for everyone. But staff, Boosters, volunteers, and most of all, your fellow band members are there to insure your success.  The task is difficult and being a member of the MCHS Band is demanding, but the rewards are great.  You will always take pride in what you, and your friends have achieved, no matter your role.  Parents and Boosters are just as critical to the success as the members. So together, we make sure we have our music memorized, check that our uniforms fit properly, remind everyone to wear black socks, and no chewing gum!

Marching band is the primary focus of first-semester, but marching events occur year round involving both musicians and guard.  In the spring, the Butterfly Festival and Memorial Day Observance for the VFW are annual marching band performances.

DRUMMERS WITH A ROLL-OFF. FOR-WARD, MARCH!
